Here is a painting in progress called "Ophelia and Hamlet" which concerns the events in Shakespear's play 'Hamlet' wherein Ophelia drowns in a stream after rejection by Hamlet.
In the Bible, Abraham was commanded by God to kill his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice. Abraham had no way of knowing that this was a test of his obedience and that he would be stopped and given a ram to kill instead. One must wonder, what would he have been thinking as he prepared to kill his son? And Sarah, the mother?
